The Nigeria Police says it has identified some cells of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in parts of Edo.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Moses Jitoboh, who heads the South South zone of Operation Restore Peace of the Police, made the disclosure at a stakeholders meeting in Benin on Thursday.
Jitoboh listed the parts to include, Ologbo, Okhuae, Igbanke, Iguolaba, Abudu in Edo South Senatorial district, as well as Igueben and Ubiaja both in Edo Central Senatorial district.
While commending the peaceful atmosphere in Edo thus far, he disclosed that the Police was ready to ensure there was no breakdown of law and order in the zone.
He noted that Nigeria will remain as one because the people have so much in common that will not allow for breakup.
He noted that the police needs the people, especially the vigilantes to be effective.
According to him, “There is no way Police can be effective without the support of the people, especially the traditional rulers.
“Vigilante is one thing the society needs, we cannot do without them, there must be synergy between the Police and the vigilante.”
In response raised by some stakeholders on the activities of vigilante, the DIG however said there would be proper profiling of memebrs of the vigilante.
