Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, will on Thursday formally present 54 units of construction equipment to the 18 Local Government Councils in the state, in what his administration describes as a decisive push to accelerate grassroots infrastructure delivery.
The commissioning ceremony, scheduled to hold in Benin City, will be performed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The event is expected to draw top government officials, political stakeholders, traditional rulers and community leaders.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Patrick Ebojele, the initiative underscores the administration’s focus on practical governance, infrastructure renewal and the strengthening of local government institutions.
The equipment package includes graders, excavators, rollers and other heavy-duty machinery intended to support road construction, rural access development, drainage rehabilitation and other community-based projects.
According to Ebojele, the direct allocation of the equipment to local councils is designed to eliminate bureaucratic delays and enhance operational efficiency at the grassroots level.
“By placing critical tools directly in the hands of local councils, the government aims to fast-track development at the grassroots and reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks,” the statement said.
The intervention, he added, is structured to empower council leadership, stimulate economic activity in rural communities and ensure equitable infrastructure development across Edo’s three senatorial districts.
Since assuming office, Governor Okpebholo has prioritised road rehabilitation, new road construction and the building of flyovers across key urban corridors. The administration maintains that improved inter-local government connectivity has eased movement for residents and strengthened economic integration within the state.
Thursday’s equipment handover is widely seen as a consolidation of the governor’s infrastructure-driven agenda and a strategic effort to deepen development at the local level.
