Holy Communion is a Christian sacrament in which consecrated bread and wine are eaten to commemorate the death of Jesus Christ and maintain spiritual ties with Him. The bread represents the flesh of Christ while the wine represents His blood. However, the Founder and General Overseer of the Power City International Church, Pastor Abel Damina has kicked against taking the Holy Communion, saying that it is not biblical.
In a video, he said: “There are things I don’t like saying all the time because they require a lot of biblical exegeses. Stop taking Holy Communion, it’s not biblical. You will not find it in the Bible, what you will find is the Passover and it has been changed to Holy Communion. Passover is a feast celebrated with 4 cups, not 1 cup as we see during the Holy Communion, unleavened bread, spices, and there are a lot of rituals in the Passover.
“Some Christians lack a proper understanding of what Paul said in 1Corinthians 11. In that verse, Paul said he delivered exactly what he received to the believers. The question is, where did he receive it from? He received it from the book of Luke. Remember he was not with Jesus when He died, but Luke was. So, he read the book of Luke to understand.
“If you don’t want to be confused about what is written in 1Corinthians 11, you need to start reading from chapter 3. He said in chapter 5:7, ‘purge out the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ, our Passover is sacrificed for us. This means that you should stop taking Holy Communion”.
