Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State on Monday performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a 100-megawatt power generating plant and a 300-metric-ton-per-day LNG facility at the Taihu Industrial Park in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, describing the project as a major step toward industrial expansion, job creation and sustainable economic growth in the state.
Speaking at the event, Okpebholo said his administration has continued to implement policies that create an investment-friendly and environmentally responsible ecosystem for manufacturing and economic development.
The governor noted that the project represents another milestone in Edo State’s drive toward industrial growth, energy security and economic transformation, adding that the investment would bring prosperity to residents and strengthen cooperation between the government and investors.
“We are happy that this great investment is happening in our time. We are not signing fake Memoranda of Understanding but following the law to develop Edo State,” Okpebholo said.
“When we were first approached on this project, we did not waste time in partnering with the company and offering land for the development because what matters to us is the investment and the opportunities it will bring to our people.”
He emphasized that reliable electricity remains critical to economic growth, aligning the initiative with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which places power supply at the center of industrial development.
“With this power plant we are creating an environmentally friendly ecosystem that will support manufacturing, create jobs and ensure sustainable economic growth in Edo State,” he said.
Okpebholo also called on residents of the host community to support the project and maintain peace, assuring investors that the state government would continue to provide an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Hon. Eric Osawaru, described the groundbreaking as a major milestone for both the local government and Nigeria’s energy sector.
According to him, the project demonstrates what can be achieved when visionary leadership, private sector investment and community collaboration work together.
“For the people of Ikpoba-Okha, this project represents jobs, skills development, infrastructure growth and community empowerment,” Osawaru said.
Speaking on behalf of the host community, Deacon Osazuwa praised the governor for creating an investment-friendly environment that has boosted investor confidence in Edo State.
“We thank you for choosing Ologbo for this investment. This project will significantly boost economic activities in the area,” he said.
Edo State Commissioner for Power, Paul Usebor, said the project marks another step in transforming the state into a hub for reliable power generation and industrial development.
He explained that the 100MW power plant will strengthen electricity supply within Edo State and neighboring regions, while the 300-metric-ton-per-day LNG facility will promote cleaner energy use, improved gas utilization and greater energy security.
Representing Taihu Industrial Park Managing Director, Jiang Fan assured stakeholders that the facility, expected to be completed within six months, would provide reliable electricity for industries and surrounding communities.
The first phase of the Taihu Benin Industrial Park, covering 29 hectares in Ologbo, is being developed by CCETC, which is also the project’s major contractor.
Officials say the project, once completed, will provide stable energy supply and support industrial expansion across the region, strengthening Edo State’s position as an emerging industrial hub.
