Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has declared that more than 2.5 million votes expected from the state in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next presidential election are already secured, describing them as a “fixed deposit” that cannot be negotiated.
The governor made the remark while receiving a delegation of a pro-Tinubu support group at his country home in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area.
The group presented a range of publicity and campaign materials, including branded wrappers, shirts and other items, aimed at mobilising grassroots support for the president’s re-election bid.
Okpebholo commended the initiative, saying it reflected the growing appreciation among Edo residents for the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration.
According to him, voluntary contributions such as the donation of campaign materials demonstrate confidence in the leadership of the president and signal strong political backing from the state.
“We commend our brother who brought these donations to support our President because he is happy with what the President is doing for Edo people. For this reason, they are already making contributions,” the governor said while acknowledging the items presented to the state chapter of the ruling party.
He added that the gesture further strengthens the political resolve of Edo people ahead of the elections.
“That means our 2.5 million votes are already in a fixed deposit. It is not negotiable. We are happy to receive these items and we are grateful. The President will also be informed about this show of support,” Okpebholo said.
The initiator of the project, Engineer Uwadiale Oziegbe, told journalists that the donation was motivated by what he described as the developmental strides of the Okpebholo administration in the state.
He noted that more campaign materials would be provided in the coming months as part of efforts to strengthen mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“This is a strategic show of support for the 2027 presidential election through our amiable governor. We have seen the massive development taking place in our state, so the best we can do is to support the governor,” Oziegbe said.
Items donated to the party included customised T-shirts, face caps and vests bearing the party’s logo.
