The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected the resignation of a former Rivers State House of Assembly Member, Ehie Edison, saying it will not conduct a bye-election in Ahoada East Constituency 2 to replace him.
Ehie who was the factional Speaker of the five-man Rivers House of Assembly members loyal to Governor Fubara s, resigned from his position and membership of the house in December 2023.
He was later appointed as Chief of Staff to the Governor before the state executives and legislature were suspended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on March 18, 2025.
Reacting to development following the reinstatement of the Governor, other executive members of the his administration and House of Assembly members, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, Gabriel Yomere, said the Commission did not accept the resignation of Edison Ehie.
Yomere, while speaking on a radio talk show on Tuesday, added that the State House of Assembly also did not also accept the resignation of the former lawmaker.
Yomere further disclosed that INEC would only conduct bye-election in Khana Constituency 2, to replace
Late Hon. Dinebary Loloo, who died in September 2023, before the end of the year.
He assured that INEC would treat every political party equally.
He declared, “There will be no preferential treatment to any political parties.
