Voting to elect a legislator who occupies the vacant Ovia Federal Constituency slot at the House of Representatives started on a peaceful note on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Iguobazuwa, Ovia South-West.
As early as 8:32am, voters were already at the Iguobazuwa Ministry of Education II, flipping through manual registers pasted on walls at Ward 2, Polling Units 2, 3 and 4.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Presiding Officers (PO) and other supporting staff were on ground, guiding voters through the voting process.
The INEC adhoc staffs carried out manual and electronic verification of voters to ensure voter information tallied with data captured in the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) register.
At 9:35am, Edo State deputy governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa cast his vote at Ward 2, Unit 3, Iguobazuwa Ministry of Education II.
Idahosa who insisted that there was strict compliance to the electoral rules and regulations guiding the bye election went further to appreciate the electorates and security operatives for the peaceful conduct of the election, noting, “everything is orderly, we are anticipating a free fair and credible election today.”
The Edo State Sports Commission Chairman, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, who spoke shortly after casting his vote at Unit 2, said, “the election has been peaceful so far, we are expecting a landslide victory.”
A voter, Atiku Abubakar, who polled at Unit 4, stated that the voting process as of the time he cast his vote, was smooth and rancour free.
Giving his perception on the conduct of the election, Abubakar said he was impressed thus far as, “No one got molested for voting for their choice candidate, and, the voting arena is free of touts. INEC officials were already on ground at Polling Units even before we, the electorates came.”
