Dr Jeremy Osamede, an aspirant for the August 16 bye-election for the Ovia federal constituency, has withdrawn from the race.
In a statement, Osamede attributed his decision to withdraw from the race to that of “party’s supremacy.”
The former statistician in the state’s Ministry of Budget and Economy Planning has pledged his support for the party’s leadership choice candidate, Ms Omosede Igbinedion.
The United Nations Peace Ambassador and a known entrepreneur, was governor Monday Okpebholo’s youth and students mobiliser during the governorship campaign in 2024.
“After consulting with relevant stakeholders in the party, including Mr. Eugene Utebor, SA to the governor on Political affairs, and the Ovia south west party Chairman, Mr. Emma Ogbomo, i wish to stepdown my ambition and support my beloved sister from Ovia, Omosede Igbinedion.
“My focus is now to work with state government in achieving his goals and objectives of the party,” he stated.
The philanthropist, therefore, called on other aspirants of the APC to sacrifice their personal ambition for the overall good of the party.
He however urged the party’s candidate, Igbinedion, to emulate Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa whose performance as Ovia federal constituency representative is yet to be equal by anybody.
