At the sixth convocation ceremony of the prestigious Edo State University, Iyamho, Edo State, recently held at the University’s premises, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Edo State, Sen. Monday Okpebholo ably represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy, Hon. (Barr) Washington Osifo, PhD pledged to bridge the gap from “what is” and “what ought to be” in terms of taking the ivory tower to the next level of excellence.
Hon. Washington Osifo, before presenting the Governor’s prepared speech, in the beauty of his cerebral eloquence, poured warm encomiums on the visioneer and founder of the University, Distinguished Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole. He marveled at the beauty, depth, and extent of the vision of a man who, as a former two-time Governor of Edo State, his impact was felt across the nooks and crannies of the State, especially in the educational sector from basic to tertiary levels.
However, Hon. Osifo observed, quite sadly, that there haven’t been substantial investment in the institution in the last eight years, hence the gap in what is and what ought to be. He harped on the fact that this was why, upon the Governor’s assumption of office, he took a guided tour of the institution to ascertain what needed to be done to improve on the vision of the Statesman who founded the institution and whose love for education knows no bound.
Speaking to the Governor’s speech, he noted that human empowerment and education form the major pillars of Sen. Monday Okpebholo’s Project SHINE, which is the framework for his Five Points agenda. He assured that as a member of the State Executive Council, he is sufficiently aware of the lofty plans of the Governor in taking the citadel of learning to enviable height of academic excellence.
Finally, The Honourable Commissioner congratulated the convocating graduates from the undergraduate to post-graduate levels, urging them to be good ambassadors of the institution and also to apply their training in knowledge and character for nation-building.
A New Edo has Risen!
