The Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, has cried out over non-payment of outstanding salaries and other deductibles owed Council workers and the union in the state which runs into billions of Naira.

The union called on the state government and Heads of Local Government Administration of the eighteen Local Government Councils in the state to, as a matter of urgency, commence the payment of all the arrears and other deductions with immediate effect to avoid workers’ faceoff in the state.

Expressing the workers’ position while fielding questions from newsmen in Benin City on Tuesday, Edo State chapter’s President, Comrade Lazarus Imokhai Adorolo said the council workers have endured enough and can no longer bear the hardship they have been subjected to.

According to Comrade Adorolo, the local government workers are downcast in Edo State as a result of the non-payment of salaries, outstanding salaries arrears and other deductions which also run into millions of Naira.

“Our compilations and findings have shown that the eighteen Local Government Councils are indebted the workers the sum of four billion, two hundred and ninety-five million, eight hundred and twenty-eight thousand, six hundred and forty-three naira, fifty-three kobo (N4,295,828,643.53).
