Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will take its local government election campaign to every part of Ovia South West Local Government Area, expressing confidence that the party will emerge victorious in the July 11 council poll.
Speaking to journalists in Iguobazuwa on Tuesday after the first phase of the campaign, Idahosa said the APC was leaving nothing to chance as it intensified grassroots mobilization across the council area.
“We are going to campaign in the nooks and crannies of Ovia South West to ensure that the APC wins the day,” he declared.
The APC officially flagged off its local government campaign with rallies across the council, beginning with visits to Udo Ward, Iguobazuwa East Ward, and Iguobazuwa West Ward, where party leaders were received by enthusiastic supporters.
Describing the turnout as encouraging, Idahosa said the massive attendance reflected growing confidence in the APC and its candidates.
“We started campaigns today. First was at Udo Ward, then Iguobazuwa East and Iguobazuwa West Wards. We visited those three wards and the turnout was amazing. This election will be keenly contested, but we are very sure the APC will win,” he said.
He disclosed that Ovia South West has 10 wards, adding that the party plans to tour the remaining seven before commencing unit-level campaigns.
Idahosa also described the emergence of the APC chairmanship candidate, Mr. Anthony Osarobo, as the beginning of a new political era for the council, urging residents to support the youthful aspirant with their votes.
Also speaking, Osarobo expressed satisfaction with the reception the campaign received from residents.
“The turnout is high. It shows they believe in us and Edo State,” he said.
During the rallies, the APC formally presented Osarobo and his running mate, Mr. Isaac Bakare, to supporters, while councillorship candidates from the various wards were also introduced and given the opportunity to engage directly with voters.
Party leaders who addressed the gatherings included the APC Chairman in Ovia South West, Mr. Emmanuel Ogbomo; member representing Ovia South West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Sunday Aghedo; Commissioner for livestock, Prof. Ikponmwonsa Omorodion; Special Adviser on Youth Mobilization, Mr. Christopher Iyase; APC Women Leader, Mrs. Adesuwa Ajari, amongst others. They urged residents to support all APC candidates, describing them as capable of delivering quality leadership and development.
With campaigns now underway, the APC says it will sustain its ward-to-ward engagement as it seeks to secure victory in the forthcoming local government elections.
