Christians, faith leaders, and residents of Edo State have been called to participate in a 14-day Mid-Year Fasting and Prayer Programme aimed at seeking divine intervention for the continued peace, protection, and development of the state.
The call was made by the Chaplain of Government House Chapel and Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters, Apostle (Dr.) Sule Faraday Azekhumen, JP, who urged believers and all well-meaning Edolites to unite in prayer for the state’s prosperity.
The spiritual exercise, themed around prayers for continuous peace and progress, will run from Monday, June 1 to Sunday, June 14, 2026, with participants expected to observe fasting daily from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
According to Apostle Azekhumen, the programme draws inspiration from several biblical passages, including Esther 4:16, Matthew 17:21, Philippians 4:6-7, Isaiah 26:3, John 14:27, 2 Thessalonians 3:16, and Psalm 29:11, which emphasize prayer, faith, strength, and God’s gift of peace.
The initiative has the backing of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Executive Governor of Edo State, who is expected to join citizens in seeking God’s guidance and blessings for the state.
Organizers noted that participation is open to all religious bodies, clergy, and religiously conscious residents, irrespective of denomination or faith background. While those capable are encouraged to undertake a sectional dry fast throughout the 14-day period, individuals with health concerns have been advised to participate according to their physical capacity.
Apostle Azekhumen expressed confidence that the collective prayers of residents would contribute significantly to sustaining peace, strengthening security, and advancing development across Edo State.
He also thanked citizens for their anticipated support and commitment to the welfare and future of the state.
