The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ovia South West local government area of Edo state has urged Governor Godwin Obaseki led government to ensure free, fair and credible exercise during the forthcoming local government election in the state.
The chairman of the party in the council area, Hon. Emmanuel Ogbomo, made the call while speaking on the poll at the party secretariat in Iguobazuwa on Tuesday.
Ogbomo lamented that the local government was the third tier of government which was closest to the people at the grassroots but unfortunately it had been paralysed by the present administration.
“Obaseki has used his uncoordinated style of leadership to cripple the local government council,” he stated.
Speaking further, Ogbomo said, “We are assuring the people of Ovia south west that APC is fully on ground for the election.
“As a party, we have put necessary machinery in motion which will culminate into electoral victory at the polls and we are participating to win by the grace of God.
“We hope that the governor and his PDP will allow the electoral umpire to perform its role without undue interference and interruptions.
“We are aware that the Governor haven lost popularity, is planning on announcing results from Benin. Honestly, he will have ovia people to contend with should he go on with he plan.
“All results must be announced at the polling unit level. Any attempt by the Governor to impose his unpopular candidate on our people will meet stiff reaction from us.”
“Furthermore, EDSIEC needs to explain to the people why Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machine will not be used, except there are underground plans to manipulate the polls
The party chairman further lambast the PDP state chairman,
Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi over plans to block entrances into the state roads to protest the alledged bad federal highways.
He said “Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi plan goes to show how shallow these guys think. It shows that they don’t care for the people because the people are already suffering, when the roads are opened, won’t this suffering multiplies when the roads are blocked?
“Besides, what right does he have to make such statement? He’s just a mere party chairman, even Obaseki won’t utter such statement”
“The PDP and the lazy Governor are busy shouting “federal roads”, are those using it not Edo people? Edo is suffering from clueless leadership and we can’t continue like this.”
It would be recalled that the state Independent Electoral Commission had fixed September 2, 2023 for the conduct of the local government poll in the state.
