The 48-year-old self-acclaimed Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho has been given two privileges at the Benin Republic detention in Cotonou. One of his lawyers, Olusegun Falola who disclosed the privileges on Friday said Igboho’s detention is a blessing in disguise.

Recall that the Yoruba Nation agitator has been standing trial in the country for the past one month after he was arrested while trying to travel to Germany with his wife, Ropo.

Ever since his travail started, there have been controversies surrounding his possible repatriation to Nigeria. However, it is learned that the outcome of his trial in Cotonou would determine whether he will be sent back to Nigeria or not.

Sunday Igboho was declared wanted by the Department of State Service Security, DSS after raiding his Ibadan residence on July 1. He was able to run away from the building.

His 2 associates were reportedly killed and 12 others arrested. Igboho was then accused of stockpiling arms and ammunition to wreak havoc in the country.

While giving an update on the safety of the agitator in the Benin Republic, his lawyer, Falola insisted that his client will not return to Nigeria until the present administration is no more in power. He further hinted that he is safer in the Benin Republic than Nigeria for these 2 reasons:

1. He was granted access to medical attention:

Falola asked his loved ones to thank the Benin Republic government for the privilege as Sunday Igboho has access to medical care. The lawyer revealed that he might have been denied the opportunity if it were another way around. He said Igboho’s health might have worsened if he had no access to it.

2. Sunday Igboho’s wife, Ropo meets his husband at her own will

This is the second privilege the Yoruba Nation agitator is currently enjoying in detention. According to Falola, his wife meets and interacts with him without any confrontation from the security operatives. This further gives the woman an apple opportunity to bring food to her husband regularly.
