A 101-year-old great-grandmother, Esther Ogunmabo, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for allegedly dealing in illicit drugs in Ilisan, Ogun State.
Ogunmabo was arrested on Saturday, August 15, after NDLEA operatives reportedly found 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, packaged in retail sachets in her possession.
The centenarian allegedly told investigators that she sold the substance to residents in the community, explaining that she turned to the illicit trade after her provisions shop was destroyed by fire.
According to her account, one of her daughters, who lives in Lagos, supplied her with the cannabis every four days, which she subsequently sold in small quantities.
The development comes as NDLEA operatives also intercepted cocaine allegedly concealed in edible cassava flour, popularly known as fufu.
Meanwhile, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has directed that the 101-year-old suspect be granted bail and placed under counselling in view of her advanced age.
Her daughter, however, has been arrested in connection with the alleged supply of the illicit substance.
