Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the ongoing Ikpoba Hill flyover at Ramat Park and the accompanying erosion control project, describing the development as a major boost to infrastructure delivery in Benin City.

The governor made a brief stop at the project site on his way from Udomi-Uwessan, Irrua—venue of the three-day strategic leadership retreat for political appointees—accompanied by top government officials. The visit formed part of his administration’s routine inspection of critical infrastructure projects across the state.

Standing atop the flyover during the inspection, Governor Okpebholo said he was impressed by the visible progress on ground, noting that the purpose of the visit was to spur contractors to maintain momentum and deliver the project on schedule.

“This is our normal routine check—to see what they are doing and to show that we are serious. They must also buckle up to ensure that this job is completed with the speed it requires,” the governor said.

He commended the contractors for their commitment, observing that the project was already nearing completion. “They are doing a good job. You can see that backfilling has started, and by the time this section is cast, the project will be at the point of completion,” he added.

Governor Okpebholo was guided round the site by Mr. Lee, Project Manager of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), the firm handling the construction.

The governor’s presence sparked excitement among traders and residents in the area, as marketers reportedly shut down the market momentarily to celebrate, cheering and offering prayers for the governor.

An elated trader, who spoke at the site, said the project had brought renewed hope to the community. “I am so excited with what I am seeing today. This flyover bridge is giving us joy. When we saw the governor on top of the bridge inspecting the work, we prayed that God will bless him. He is a good man,” she said.

The Ikpoba Hill flyover and erosion control works are key components of the Okpebholo administration’s infrastructure agenda, aimed at easing traffic congestion, improving urban mobility, and tackling environmental challenges in Benin City.
