In a clear signal that diligence and integrity still pay in public service, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has rewarded three Government House staff members with brand new SUVs for their outstanding commitment to duty.
The presentation took place on Thursday at the Government House, Benin City, where the governor explained that the gesture was a deliberate effort to motivate workers who consistently demonstrate discipline, punctuality, and loyalty to service.
According to the governor, the beneficiaries had been under quiet observation for some time. He disclosed that he intentionally delayed activities on the day of the presentation to see whether staff would close early once supervision appeared relaxed.
“Today, I allowed this to happen late because I wanted to know whether you would close early and miss your luck,” the governor said. “God kept you. It has been your habit to come early and close late.”
Governor Okpebholo recounted seeing one of the staff members trekking briskly to the office to beat resumption time, an act he said left a lasting impression. “I watch carefully. You deserve this, and I want you to continue in this manner. We are here to serve Edo people,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Mary Salami of the Protocol Department described the reward as overwhelming, expressing deep gratitude to the governor.
“I’m so excited and short of words. I really don’t know what to say,” she told journalists. “I am very grateful to Mr. Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo. I pray that God Almighty will bless and prosper him and give him the grace to make the right decisions at all times.”
Other beneficiaries of the gesture include Sylvanus, also of the Protocol Department, and Mike Oshioshio from the ICT Unit, all under the Government House Directorate.
The donation, according to the governor, is part of his broader commitment to promoting excellence, dedication, and accountability in Edo State’s public service, reinforcing the message that hard work does not go unnoticed.
With this gesture, the Okpebholo administration has once again underscored its belief that a new culture of service and reward is taking root in Edo State.
