Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured residents that his administration remains firmly in control of the state’s security situation, vowing to decisively crush kidnapping, cultism, and other criminal activities threatening public peace.
In a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Akhere Ebojele, PhD., the Governor gave the assurance amid rising public concern over security, stressing that his government has made significant investments in modern security equipment, intelligence gathering, and inter-agency collaboration to confront criminal elements across the state.
According to him, sustained security operations are currently ongoing in different parts of Edo, with early signs already indicating positive results in the fight against kidnapping and related crimes.
Governor Okpebholo noted that security matters are delicate and cannot always be subjected to open public debate, warning that premature disclosure of operational details could jeopardize efforts to dismantle criminal networks.
While reaffirming the government’s respect for citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful protest, the governor cautioned against attempts by unscrupulous individuals or groups to hijack public sentiments for the purpose of destabilising the state.
“This administration will not allow criminals or their sponsors to take Edo State hostage,” Okpebholo said. “Anyone involved in kidnapping, cultism, or any form of criminality will be tracked down and brought to justice. There will be no hiding place for perpetrators.”
He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, and encouraged them to go about their lawful activities without fear, assuring that the government is fully on top of the security challenges.
The governor also called on citizens to support security agencies by volunteering credible information and refusing to harbour or shield criminals within their communities.
Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his commitment to restoring lasting peace and security across Edo State, declaring that his administration remains resolute in building a safe, peaceful, and prosperous environment for all residents.
