Edo Governor, Okpebholo Approves Appointment of Visually-Challenged Lawyer to Justice Ministry

In a landmark move that signals a new era of inclusion in Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the appointment of a visually-challenged lawyer, Ms. Kindness Ikponwonsa Idahosa, as a Law Officer in the Ministry of Justice.

In a statement signed by the Chief press secretary to the governor, Ebojele Akhere Patrick, PhD, Okpebholo described the appointment as a bold reaffirmation of his administration’s belief that disability is no barrier to excellence. “There is always ability in every disability,” he said, noting that the state is determined to create real opportunities for all citizens, regardless of physical limitations.

Ms. Idahosa’s path to public service is one marked by extraordinary resilience. Diagnosed with Hereditary Sensory Neuropathy, a severe spinal condition, she was forced to drop out of school in JSS 3 and remained out of the classroom for thirteen years. Her turning point came when the Network for the Advancement of People with Visible Disabilities stepped in, providing her with a wheelchair and sponsoring her return to school.

From there, she soared. She gained admission to study Law at the University of Benin, graduating with a Second Class Upper in 2023. She later attended the Nigerian Law School, completing her Bar Finals and earning her call to the Bar in September 2025.

Governor Okpebholo’s approval of her appointment, observers say, reflects a growing commitment to fairness, inclusion and practical support for Edo people who have persisted often against tremendous odds.
