In a decisive move to reinforce Nigeria’s national security framework, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced sweeping changes in the nation’s military hierarchy, appointing new Service Chiefs to lead the Armed Forces.
General Olufemi Oluyede takes over as the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa. The President also approved the appointment of Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership.”
The President urged the newly appointed military leaders to “justify the confidence reposed in them” and to uphold the “professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
All appointments, according to the statement, take immediate effect.
