In the wake of the tragic murder of Inspector Onu Akor, the security aide attached to Senator Monday Okpebholo, tensions have escalated in Edo State.
The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has been accused of threatening severe repercussions if any of his supporters are arrested.
The accusations come amid claims that those implicated in the attack on Inspector Akor are openly associating with the Governor’s convoy and have even taken refuge within the Government House.
The Edo APC Campaign, through its spokesman, Prince Kassim Afegbua, has as a result strongly condemned the actions of those attempting to blackmail the Nigeria Police Force for performing its duties.
The statement emphasized that individuals with nothing to hide should have no reason to fear police investigations.
The APC Campaign urged those involved to submit themselves to the police for questioning, rather than resorting to intimidation tactics.
The release also highlighted a recent incident where Governor Obaseki’s alleged “thugs” attacked APC supporters following a campaign event in Ewohinmi.
Campaign materials were destroyed, and threats were made against the supporters. Despite these provocations, the APC Campaign vowed not to be distracted from their focus on securing victory in the upcoming September 21st election.
The Nigeria Police was urged to maintain their constitutional responsibility of providing a secure environment for the election. The APC Campaign criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Governor for allegedly threatening the peace of the state through the actions of the Edo Security Network.
The statement called for the disbandment of this group, questioning its role in the election process and asserting that legitimate security agencies should be the only ones involved.
The campaign concluded by reaffirming its support for the Nigeria Police in their investigation into Inspector Akor’s murder, urging those with information to come forward and cooperate with law enforcement.
