APC New Media Directorate Press Release

July 29, 2024

Edo State – As the September 21st gubernatorial election approaches, the APC New Media Directorate urges all Edo citizens to remain vigilant and cautious regarding recent security concerns. Reports have emerged suggesting that Governor Godwin Obaseki is potentially using the Edo State Security Network (ESN) to manipulate the upcoming election.

During a recent visit to the National Assembly, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, expressed his fears regarding the security of the Edo elections. He revealed that one of the political parties has raised serious allegations against Governor Obaseki, claiming that he is using the state vigilante network to disrupt the election process.

These allegations are deeply troubling. It has come to our attention that Governor Obaseki is currently recruiting a large number of individuals into the Edo State Security Network. There are concerns that this expanded security outfit may be deployed on Election Day to work in favor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), undermining the integrity of the electoral process.

We, the APC New Media Directorate, call on all Edo citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities. It is crucial that we protect the sanctity of our democratic process and ensure a free, fair, and transparent election.

We also urge the security agencies to remain neutral and uphold their constitutional duty to protect all citizens and ensure the safety of the electoral process. Any attempt to intimidate or manipulate voters will not be tolerated and will be met with the full force of the law.

In this critical time, let us all come together to safeguard our democracy and ensure that the will of the people prevails.

Stay vigilant, stay safe, and exercise your right to vote without fear.

Signed:

Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah
