The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the dismissal of Dr. Samuel Alli from his position as Commissioner for Health by Governor Godwin Obaseki, interpreting it as an acknowledgment of the administration’s shortcomings.

The APC’s strong stance is reflected in the statement signed by Comrade Orobosa Omo-Ojo JP, Director of the Publicity Committee for the Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council, highlighting the party’s commitment to challenging Obaseki’s administration and advocating for change.

The APC expressed its disapproval of what it termed as scapegoating, arguing that Dr. Alli had been reduced to a mere supervisor within the State Ministry of Health by the Governor.

According to the APC, the dismissal aligns with a broader pattern of Obaseki’s governance, where commissioners are overshadowed by consultants, leading to a significant depletion of state resources. They claim that the government’s statement about Obaseki’s commitment to achieving optimal service delivery in the last four months of his administration is misleading and does not reflect the reality of the state’s governance.

The APC asserted that Obaseki and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) cannot escape the consequences of their alleged failures in addressing essential needs such as healthcare, education, food security, and infrastructure. They pointed out the numerous uncompleted projects, suggesting that these are likely to remain unaddressed as Obaseki’s term comes to an end.

Instead of seeking more scapegoats, the Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council has called on Governor Obaseki to step down and allow for a transitional government to address the state’s issues. They also urged other commissioners, who they claim have been sidelined in their ministries, to resign and join efforts to reclaim the state from what they describe as a governance model run by consultants with personal interests.
