Rev Olu Martins’ article, “Idahosa, like his APC party, is intolerant,” prompted this response to clarify his misconceptions about the legal actions taken by Rt Hon Dennis Idahosa, the running mate to the APC Governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
Rev Martins labeled Hon Idahosa as “an intolerant politician,” citing Lord Dennis and Archbishop Benson Idahosa’s quotes, alongside biblical references. He recounted his own past struggles as a student leader and civil rights activist, albeit boisterously, to underscore his resilience.
However, it’s crucial to state that Rt Hon Idahosa’s political track record and maturity is legendary, having secured a second term representing Ovia Federal Constituency in Edo South despite electoral and legal challenges from the PDP.
In light of the legal action initiated by Rt Hon Idahosa, Rev Martins is advised to await the details of the suit regarding his alleged malicious and defamatory publications. Patience is urged, as rushing ahead could prove detrimental.
Rt Hon Idahosa seeks N2 billion in damages and demands a public apology, removal of offensive publications, and payment of legal costs from the Rev. Its all in the suit, filed by Dr. Ehiogie West-Idahosa, SAN, and is underway at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
Hopefully, this litigation underscores the importance of responsible communication in political discourse rather than maligning opponents in desperate bids to score cheap fame. It is sad that a political party like the PDP cannot understand this. It will soon learn.
