Edo APC Guber Primary: Election Of February 17th Validly Elected Dennis Idahosa

A former Commissioner in Edo State, Kassim Afegbua, has, during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, insisted that only the Court could determine who the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Edo State is; after he noted that the election that took place on the 17th of February validly elected Dennis Idahosa.

He added that since the election was declared inconclusive, the party ought to have added the results from the previous exercise to the new one.

Kassim Afegbua had said, “You see, while we are waiting for the court to take, you know, a definite stand with respect to the validity that comes out of that process, we also have to bear in mind that that particular election of February 17th validly elected Dennis Idahosa.

“If the party hierarchy now decides that it was inconclusive, or even if it was to be a stand-alone election on February 22nd, there are also procedures, because you need to give INEC 7 days notice if you are going to do fresh election which was not done.

“And if it was inconclusive, that means there was already a foundation laid, you know, by the election — by the primaries of February 17th and to that extent, we were expecting that, okay, you have to bring forward that result and marry it with whatever you did on the 22nd of February to produce a new result if that is what you want to do, but in this case — you see, I think quite a number of persons deliberately wanted to give the party a bad name…”
