An Afemai Adage says; “ONE DOESN’T DIE AT THE SPOT HE/SHE MADE AN OBJECTIVE OPINION BUT ENSURE YOU SAY IT AS IT IS & AT THE RIGHT TIME”!! Stretching this further, One would want to have a cursory look at the context, realism of the Political ” Now” In Edo state for the APC that warranted an Afemai APC leader to have made such Opinion and seeked the support of other party members across the Edo North to flow in his ideas.
For those, who think Politics or winning election lies solely on the monetary strength of the aspirants or those who feels their senatorial district for whatever delusional Political message or hope they are carrying cam win the Edo state governorship election on their own, It’s time to wake UP!!
The internal wrangling in the Edo state APC at the moment is no longer sustainable if we must and want to win any viable election in Edo state!! There are issues of non equitable spread of federal appointment already making other senatorial districts to be seeing the Edo North (that account for about 31% of voting Population in Edo state) to be in Political disequilibrium with the rest of the state especially the Edo South (About 52% Voting Population)!! As it stand the Federal house of representatives Leader is From Edo North,(APC), the Minister of Niger Delta is From Edo North, the immediate past Minister of budget and National Planning was also from Edo North and from same LGA with the current Minister and one of the Governorship aspirant at the moment!! Some other Federal Government appointment so far are also mainly sustained in Edo North e.g The CMD of the National Hospital (Immediate past and Present), the MD NRC(Nigeria Railway corporation) etc.
Equity is different from equality and that’s what we need as a base in the Edo state APC to foster the all needed unity to take Edo from Obaseki and PDP!! Let’s be discipline enough to tell ourselves the truth without Primordial sentiment!!
The Edo APC needs the unity of purpose it can get more than before to defeat the PDP, LP & Obaseki. Edo North doesn’t have the voting Numerical strength to embark on a solo Political journey while hoping to win the next year Governorship election in Edo state.
Democracy at the end of the day is Politically strengthened upon NUMBERS and statistics gives that strength to Edo South and they can’t be jettison in the drive for a United APC for Edo 2024!!
It’s Obvious that the Edo South feels shortchanged so far going by the FG appointments that favouring only the Edo North senatorial district Meanwhile same Edo South have the numbers to bring to the table for Political bargaining when the chips are down.
Those calling for the crucifixion of Alhaji ABUBAKAR AKOKHIA today might be making some Political error of Misplaced contriteness, Instead let’s reason upon what he has said as a base to strengthen further unity amongs the district so we can deliver as expected!!
Edo can’t afford to be cut off from national Politics and the many developmental implications and the Opportunity to return the state to where it truly belongs is NOW.
