Good to see my colleague in the doctoral class, friend and brother Mr. Taiwo Akerele (First from the left) on President-Elect Tinubu’s delegation to the US for a media parley with the US press. Mr. Taiwo Akerele resigned as Chief of Staff to Edo state Governor Godwin Obaseki to continue his academic exploit full-time.
He is a scholar of repute with a pack of solution to the political-economy sector in Africa, Nigeria. He is vast and versed on political and economic issues in Nigeria and would be a great asset to Nigeria under Bola Tinubu’s presidency if given a chance.

Taiwo Akerele is a talented political scientist young prolific and capable to lead/ join the economic reform in the nation’s governance sector.
The media parley with the US is of good essence and fundamentally imperative at this time. The constitutive theory acknowledges the functionality of any state in the comity of nation when it is recognised (for relations) by other states.
And unlike in April 2015 when US President Barrack Obama (as he then was) put a call through to the president elect Muhammad Buhari after the latter secured victory in the 2015 presidential election, Joe Biden incumbent US President is yet to follow this conventional practice. Although the American State Department had sent a congratulations message to Tinubu days after the INEC announcement, still Biden’s call to Tinubu is crucial as a conventional practice in international affairs.
The implication of this should necessarily unsettle the camp of the president elect. Aside from being the world largest democracy, the US anchors and spearheading most of the global institutions the president elect would work with when he assumes power. Tinubu wouldn’t afford any uncalmness with US. He needs the assurance that the US under Biden looks forward to working with him.
The parley with the US media is fortunate to have Taiwo Akerele. He must have spurred the meeting noting and citing what the two nations would gain with Tinubu’s presidency and particularly clearing all doubts possibly on the alleged infraction in the process that secured him the victory.
I wish them the best of luck!
AZEEM SALAKO.
