The people of Oluku community in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo, says their children would no longer treck or travel for a distance of over 3km to attend secondary school.
The community made this statement on Monday when the new secondary school constructed by the lawmaker representing Ovia federal constituency, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, commenced admission of students for the new academic session.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Oluku Ward community spokesman, Mr. Jolly Uwaifo, said before the construction, there was no existing secondary school in the whole of Oluku community.
He said this did not only affect the children who had to travel far to attend secondary school classes, but also placed financial burden on the parents in the area of transportation fare.
He noted that efforts by the community to get government and former lawyers from the constituency to provide a secondary school in the area had yielded no result.
According to him, “That is why we are indeed elated with what Dennis Idahosa has done for us as a people; it is now that we feel as members of the state.
“We have lost some of our children to accident because of haven to travel far to attend secondary school, I don’t want to make mention of the financial burden this placed on some of us with no regular source of income.
“Idahosa had done us noble and we can only show our appreciation to him by ensuring we all support his second term bid to the House of Representatives.”
