Former Minister of Works and Housing, Senator Barnabas Gemade has told the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue state that if he is allowed to fly the flag of the party for the 2023 governorship elections, he would deliver the state to the party.
Gemade, who is a gubernatorial aspirant on the APC platform in Benue disclosed this when he paid a visit to the APC leadership at its secretariat in Makurdi to intimate the party officials on his ambition.
In a statement signed by Daniel Ihomun, the State Publicity Secretary of the party and made available to press men in Makurdi on Sunday, Gemade insisted that APC must field credible candidates like him to enable the party to win her elections come 2023.
Gemade, a former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) however assured the State Executive Committee of the party that he has the capacity to win the governorship election for the party if he were made the party’s candidate for 2023 elections.
He explained that before now he has had many opportunities to become governor, but preferred to support younger ones for the position, adding that now was however the time for him to become Governor and ensure the development of the state.
Gemade, therefore charged the leadership of the APC in Benue to ensure a level playing field, during the party primaries, arguing that transparency in the process, would ensure that those that lost at the primaries would team up in support of candidates that emerged for the party.
In his response, Comrade Austin Agada, the APC Chairman in the state, reiterated that the leadership of the party would strictly adhere to the constitutional provisions of the APC in carrying out her responsibilities.
He assured Gemade that the party was fully prepared to wrest power from the PDP administration in the state, come 2023.
Also present at the meeting were Dr Steven Tsav, State Deputy Chairman; Barr Vincent Uji, State Vice-Chairman Zone A; James Tor, State Vice-Chairman, Zone B; his counterpart in Zone C, Pinot Ogbaji.
