The crisis in the main opposition party, the PDP is gradually taking an unusual dimension as accusations and counter-accusations have continued flying around from party officials over the alleged non-performance of the national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.
The calls for the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Uche Secondus have become stronger as some top party officers have joined the agitation for the embattled chairman to go.
The most recent is from the southwest chairman of the party, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja.
The southwest party leader made his position known as he shared his reactions about the recent mass resignation of some members of the national working committee of the party earlier this week.
Arapaja disclosed that the way the national chairman is acting, it appears he may be working for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC
He based his suspicion on the fact that even after losing 3 governors, Secondus was yet to show leadership but had gone ahead to label the governors’ defection as being inconsequential.
Recall some PDP governors had defected from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
They include the governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, the governor of Cross River State, Prof Ben Ayade and the most recent, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state.
Arapaja also noted that at the moment, Nigerians may feel that the party is in crisis but that was not true.
He opined that what the party is witnessing is a cleansing and sanitation stage as it is geared towards preparing the party to take over government in 2023.
He added that the major crises in the PDP was fueled by the refusal of the embattled chairman, Prince Uche Secondus to resign.
He accused Secondus of rather seeking for an opportunity to extend his tenure as chairman to the detriment of the party
