N345m declared missing from Kano Shariah court account

More than N345 million has been declared missing from the Kano Upper Shariah Court account, according to a report by Freedom Radio.

The state Grand Khadi Tijjani Yakasai confirmed the development, saying the matter had been reported to the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, PCACC, for investigation.

The secretary to the court, Haruna Khalil, said an investigative panel had been set up to investigate the matter.

According to him, the funds belong to heirs and heiresses kept in the custody of the court before distribution to the rightful owners.

He said the lid was blown off when the court attempted to withdraw part of the money, and then discovered that only N9million remaining in the account.

It was gathered that after setting up the panel of inquiry, some computers were stolen from the agency to cover up tracks.

Acting chairman of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Mahmud Balarabe, said they invited all those involved as well as officials of the bank for questioning.
