A former Liaison Officer of Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State and a member of the Edo State campaign organization of people’s democratic party PDP for the forthcoming gubernatorial election Paul Aronokhale, has resigned his membership from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State.
In a letter dated 28th July, 2024, Mr. Aronokhale announced his immediate resignation as a member of the PDP, citing the ongoing crisis rocking the party from the ward to the national level.
The former party official expressed gratitude for the opportunities to have served in various capacities under the PDP platform but stated that he could no longer continue in the party due to the persistent crisis.
The letter, which was addressed to the Ward 8 Chairman of Etsako East LGA, with the title: RESIGNATION OF MY MEMBERSHIP FROM THE PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP), reads:
“Please kindly accept this letter as an official notice of my resignation as a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.
“I appreciate the privilege and opportunities to have served as the liaison officer (LO) and Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) in Etsako East local government council under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
“However, I am no longer comfortable with the crisis rocking the party from the ward to the national level, hence my resignation”
Mr. Aronokhale, before his appointment as the Liaison Officer (Caretaker chairman) by Governor Godwin Obaseki, served as the Secretary to the Local Governmet from 2019 to 2022.
His resignation comes as the PDP continues to face internal conflicts and power struggles, which have been affecting the party’s stability and cohesion.
Yesterday, a former two times commissioner and a strong party stalwart, Abas Jega, who had also resigned before now, led other party faithfuls of the PDP to join the opposition APC in the state.
The development has sparked concerns among party loyalists, who fear that the crisis may lead to further defections and weaken the party’s chances in the upcoming governorship election in Edo State.
