Edo 2024: Obaseki and Asue Ighodalo, the big lesson from the EFCC case of Yahaya Bello of Kogi State

What happened in Kogi State where the current governor aided and shielded Yahaya Bello from being arrested by EFCC is the reason the Edo people should never allow Obaseki to have his way of foisting Asuen Ighodalo on us as his successor.

For those who don’t know, for the past seven years of Obaseki’s government, all financial transactions by the Edo State government have been done through Sterling Bank where Asuen Ighodalo was the Chairman. Asuen Ighodalo was the agent Obaseki used in doing all his transactions as a governor just the way the current governor of Kogi State was the accountant Yahoo used as the conduit pipe for the alleged looting of Kogi State.

This is the new trend now in Nigeria, Governors after looting their state resources will bring a person who they used in doing the looting as a successor to ensure prosecution becomes difficult due to immunity and they are shielded from arrest and prosecution. Edo People who truly want Obaseki to account for how he managed our resources must never support him to force Asuen on us, we need a different person like Akpakomiza as a
governor.

The people of Edo State need to be aware of the potential risks of electing a successor who may have been involved in financial transactions with the current governor. The case of Yahaya Bello in Kogi State serves as a reminder of the dangers of allowing such individuals to continue in positions of power. It is crucial for the people to carefully consider their options and choose a candidate who is not connected to the incumbent. The call for a different person, such as Akpakomiza, to lead the state reflects the desire for accountability and transparency in governance.
