The South-West Governors’ Forum has urged the protesting youths to embrace dialogue with the relevant government agencies.
The Chairman of the forum and Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, in a statement on Tuesday, urged the youth to allow the government to attend to their grievances.
He stated, “The events of the last seven days have afforded all of us the rare opportunity to appreciate the challenges encountered by the young ones, with specific regard to the relationship between young citizens and security operatives deployed in the Special Anti-Robbery Squad throughout the country. The outpouring of emotions has been overwhelming as well as illuminating.
“Our youths and their sympathisers have spoken loud and clear. The political leadership and important stakeholders have joined in solidarity with our youths of this country. We all agreed on the need to ensure the gains of this resolve to right the wrongs of the past are not lost.
“Consequently, the South-West governors appeal to our youths to allow the government to attend to their stated and implied grievances. This cannot happen in an atmosphere of anarchy and disregard to authorities. We, therefore, appeal to our youths to embrace dialogue with the relevant agencies of the government with a view to addressing all issues openly, transparently and timely.”
